American Hazelnut
Scientific Name: Corylus americana
Height: 8-15 feet
Growth Rate: fast
Habitat:
prefers well-drained, loamy soil and full sun to partial shade. Best grown informally in naturalized areas, open woodland gardens or prairies where it can be allowed to spread. May also be used as a screen or as a planting for the rear of a shrub border. The nuts are eaten by small mammals, ruffed grouse and other large birds, and deer. Beaver eat the bark
