This year program is ADDING LIFE TO THE SOIL… TRUE SUSTAINABILITY! presented by Dane Terrill of Flowerfield Enterprises, LLC. Dane will discuss True Sustainability - adding life to the soil with applications of compost tea increases growth, vigor, and health in vegetables, trees, shrubs and grasses. Compost tea makes the benefits of good compost go much farther. Many ecologically minded communities have banned the use of phosphorus, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Compost tea is a safe, healthy, environmentally friendly alternative.
Flowerfield Enterprises was started 35 years ago by Mary Appelhof, a world famous author, lecturer, educator and champion for conservation and ecological awareness. Her famous book Worms Eat My Garbage has sold over 200, 000 copies. She used her tireless energy to promote the idea that individuals can take the initiative to reduce waste and pollution and grow safer and more nutritious foods. At the time of her death in 2005 Mary had studied the effects of compost and compost tea and how they could be used at the local level to improve our farms, lawns and gardens. Flowerfield Enterprises, LLC continues in that tradition by studying with Elaine Ingham, PhD who pioneered the research and use of compost tea and its benefits to the soil food web.
